Corrections, Retractions, and Editorial Expressions of Concern Policy
Introduction
This policy outlines the procedures for handling cases that require corrections, retractions, or editorial expressions of concern regarding published articles in our journal. Our commitment is to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record and to ensure that readers have access to accurate and reliable research findings.
1. Corrections
1.1 Definition
Corrections are made to address errors in published articles that do not affect the overall conclusions or integrity of the research. These can include typographical errors, inaccuracies in the data, or minor issues that do not compromise the study’s validity.
1.2 Procedure
- Identification of Errors: Corrections may be identified by authors, reviewers, or readers.
- Author Notification: If an author identifies an error, they must notify the editorial office immediately, providing details of the error and the necessary corrections.
- Assessment: The editorial team will assess the correction request and determine its validity and impact.
- Publication of Correction: If deemed necessary, a correction notice will be published, linked to the original article. The original article will be updated to reflect the correction.
2. Retractions
2.1 Definition
Retractions occur when a published article is found to contain significant errors, ethical violations, or fraudulent data that invalidate the study’s findings. Retractions aim to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.
2.2 Procedure
- Identification of Issues: Retraction can be initiated by authors, editors, or readers upon discovering significant issues with the article.
- Investigation: The editorial team will conduct a thorough investigation to assess the validity of the concerns raised. This may involve consulting external experts or the authors.
- Decision Making: If the investigation confirms significant errors or ethical violations, the editorial team will decide to retract the article.
- Publication of Retraction: A formal retraction notice will be published, clearly stating the reasons for the retraction. The original article will be marked as retracted in the journal.
3. Editorial Expressions of Concern
3.1 Definition
An editorial expression of concern is issued when there are serious doubts regarding the validity of a published article, but there is insufficient evidence to warrant a retraction. This serves to alert readers to potential issues while further investigations are ongoing.
3.2 Procedure
- Identification of Concerns: Concerns may arise from reports of misconduct, significant errors, or emerging evidence that questions the validity of the research.
- Assessment: The editorial team will evaluate the concerns and determine if an expression of concern is warranted.
- Publication: If deemed appropriate, an expression of concern will be published alongside the original article, outlining the nature of the concerns raised and indicating that further investigation is ongoing.
4. Responsibilities
- Authors: Authors are responsible for promptly reporting any errors or ethical issues related to their published work.
- Editors: The editorial team is responsible for investigating reported issues, making decisions regarding corrections or retractions, and ensuring that the scholarly record is accurate and transparent.
- Readers: Readers are encouraged to report any suspected errors, ethical violations, or concerns related to published articles to the editorial office.
